Lorimer- Kobo Project

I had a Skype meeting with the children’s editor and a publicist at Lorimer books yesterday. They have agreed to let us to download books for our Kobos for free! I am so excited to see which books my ESL students will choose. There is a lot of overlap between English Language Learners and “reluctant readers.” Both groups want to read materials appropriate their age, despite reading below grade level. I am very optimistic that my students will enjoy their new books.

Check back for more updates on the Kobo ‘experiment’ as we start reading our new books.

Kobo Assignments: Step 1

To get used to the Kobos, we are going to do a series of assignments. For each assignment, you will answer the questions in the comment section of this blog.

In class we will learn how to use the Follet shelf and Tumble books on the computers. If you have a library card, have you tried downloading an eBook from the Toronto Public Library? Please share what you have learned.

Response Question: Answer in the comments please…

Name one eBook you have downloaded or looked at. Tell me the title of the book and the author’s name. I also want to know where you got it and what device you read it on. (Devices can be: computer, Kobo, tablet, smart phone etc.). I f you have read only paper books so far, you can say that too.

We are going to be doing an experiment in ESL class. We are going to be learning how to use Kobo Mini eReaders. Kobo calls them “the world’s smallest and lightest full-featured eReader.” Watch this space to find out when the Kobos arrive. More about the readers here.
